The Indonesian government has announced that it will impose stricter measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the country. “We will not hesitate to take firm action against those who violate health protocols and endanger the public,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

The new measures include stricter enforcement of mask-wearing and social distancing rules, as well as increased testing and tracing efforts. “We need to be more vigilant and disciplined in following the health protocols to prevent a surge in cases,” Sadikin added.

The government has also decided to extend the implementation of the Emergency PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement) in Java and Bali until the end of September. The decision was made after a recent increase in cases in both regions.

“We have seen a worrying trend in the number of cases, especially in Java and Bali, so we need to extend the PPKM to prevent further spread of the virus,” Sadikin explained. The government will also provide more support to healthcare facilities in the affected areas.

In addition to the extension of the PPKM, the government is also considering implementing a booster dose program for healthcare workers and vulnerable groups. “We are exploring the possibility of providing booster doses to those who need extra protection against the virus,” Sadikin said.

The decision to impose stricter measures comes after Indonesia reported a record high number of daily cases in recent weeks. “We cannot afford to be complacent in our efforts to control the spread of the virus,” Sadikin emphasized.

The government is urging the public to continue following health protocols and get vaccinated to protect themselves and others. “Vaccination is our best defense against the virus, so we encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” Sadikin stated.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Sadikin remains optimistic about Indonesia’s ability to overcome the crisis. “We have faced many challenges before and we have always emerged stronger. I believe that we will get through this together,” he concluded.
